Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the ACTH(4–10) region and has been investigated for its effects on neurotrophic and neuroprotective pathways. Research has examined its relationship with brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neuronal signalling and cognitive-related processes, including intranasal administration. 

Research areas include: neurotrophic signalling, BDNF and TrkB pathways, cognitive and memory research, neuronal protection, cerebral ischemia research and intranasal peptide delivery. Human research exists, but much of the available clinical evidence comes from relatively small or older studies, so stronger controlled trials are still needed.
